The shift from a traditional search experience to one defined by AI personalisation will be what 2026 is known for.
Jump to Wedding SEO Best Practices for 2026.While prediction is not my forte, the trend of Google’s updates in their search engine algorithm, and what shows on the search results page (known as SERPs) is heavily leaning towards a change towards AI powered SEO.
For wedding SEO, your couples are experiencing this change and have completely shifted the way they find their vendors through search engines.
In this article, we’ll detail what’s shaping SEO in 2026 including entity and semantic SEO, AI powered search, current SEO best practices and how ‘old’ techniques still fit into today’s optimisation efforts.
New Search Reality
In a wedding, there’s a tradition that one of the couples has ‘something borrowed’. It’s the same with SEO.
Oh, you didn’t think there would be wedding analogies did you?
Before the days of popularised Generative AI, Google had already built and was using the same framework. Machine Learning and Deep Learning make up its algorithms, which are the complex math-led decisions it makes to find websites (crawling), shelving them away for when needed (indexing) and prioritising them when your couples start their wedding planning (ranking).
Today ‘New Search’ is being called a number of things. AIO (AI Optimisation), GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation, but frankly it’s the same as EIEIO (Old McDonald). The acronyms will be aplenty, but don’t get it twisted, we’re working towards the same goal.
Optimise for your clients first, machines second.
Entities and Semantics Is What Will Win SEO & AI in 2026
Entity SEO and Semantic SEO aren’t new. But those who started early with the concepts whether intentionally or not are typically amongst the top ranked sites when you’re searching amongst your competitors.
It sounds foreign, but your wedding business is probably doing it already. Let’s define these concepts:
What is Entity SEO
Entity SEO is a very multifaceted overlook at modern SEO, where instead of building an SEO strategy around a keyword, we build around the entity.
Who is the entity?
Why you of course! And:
- Brand/Business
- Your service or product
- Your location (your shop, studio, or service area)
- People (you, staff)
These are all relevant to Google, because they create a greater understanding of what’s searched by your couples. Instead of trying to trawl through its billions of indexed websites by seeing if the exact query exists as a keyword on this page, it unwraps the query and, through math, assesses the resources from its stored index and also the entities named in content.
It’s intentional of Google to try to make it way easier on itself. And with these billions of pages, optimising your site for Google and AI to retrieve information as quickly and efficiently as possible will be what works best.
Entities is the concept of things not strings, coined by Amit Singhal, the former SVP of Engineering at Google in 2012, when they updated their search decision making with the addition of the Knowledge Graph (this will be discussed later in the article).

What is Semantic SEO
Semantic SEO heavily reflects your content and what’s seen as topic-led not keyword-led. It’s not too detached from entity SEO, in that the entities you mention are normally very closely aligned to the topic.
In the same way AI is really just good at pattern recognition, Google and other search engines’ algorithms have long been understanding the meaning of your content, not just the keywords you use. This is what is shaping up to be the blend to AI powered search, particularly in 2026.
This approach to search involves considerable topic depth, relevant and contextual internal linking with similar articles and main topics, and good content structure.
Wedding SEO Best Practices for 2026
Blogging & Your Webpages
Blogging on your website has always been an SEO strategy for wedding vendors. But, we’re doing it differently in 2026 with a semantic and entity-led approach, whilst still posting gallery articles and how to guides regularly.
Demonstrating Expertise Through Content Strategy
Content will never stop being important. Without it, Google will have no understanding and users won’t be satisfied with what they’re searching for.
A good SEO content strategy with human led copywriting will be critical for those wanting to rank their wedding site in 2026. Having the benefit of your tone of voice matched to your brand, whilst still matching semantic SEO best practices will help considerably in new, engaged organic traffic.
Instead of a wedding DJ just publishing article after article, we’re looking at topical authority which covers the full topic depth of music at a wedding. While answering one small topic of best aisle songs may only be ~500 words, the greater topic of Choosing Music At Your Wedding will cover more and likely link that best aisle songs blog into it.
And much like content strategy exists for your social media strategy, I’m not just talking about the words on the page either.
We’re talking social posts to Google Ads, email marketing, PR, with a consistent brand-led tone of voice and messaging.
Oh, and speaking of social media. Since July last year, it was confirmed that Meta was allowing Instagram posts from professional creators to be indexed. Who said SEO and Social can’t be friends?
Showing Your Service Offering

Whilst auditing wedding sites, I’ve came across a very common lost opportunity when it comes to content.
There’s the hallmarks of a website; a homepage, About page, Services page, Contact page and a blog or FAQ page. But there’s no Service page for each of their high value services. Recently, I’ve audited a wedding musician and a marriage celebrant in the last 2 months, with this exact scenario.
But if it’s mentioned in the Services page, it’s still there right? Well, let’s go back to semantic and entity search.
Entity salience is a concept which scores the entity in content and how prominently it’s mentioned.
Your basics of SEO like your H1, title tag, meta description all will help salience within the entity. But once you add your copy with keywords, related and semantic terms you’re showing a healthy level of prominence in your service offering.
In short; build your services as new pages under your Services umbrella, don’t only keep them listed with everything you offer.
Growing Your Brand (And Your Knowledge Graph) Online
Often, SEO was seen as completely detached from a brand – seen as the technical side of marketing and didn’t need to follow the brand guidelines. Although few SEOs and brand marketers still hold on to this belief, this has shifted and is certainly not my approach to wedding SEO.
Online Directories
There’s lots of misconceptions about online directories, but it can help your SEO.
Omg! Can’t wait for it to skyrocket me to #1 as soon as I publish my listing!
Soz, that’s not it. Much like anything in SEO – one activity is normally a fraction of what’s needed in ranking decisions from search engines.
But combined with other entity building activities, building your presence through online wedding directories like EasyWeddings, ABIA, WedShed, HelloMay, and others will be the first step to building your brand in Google’s Knowledge Graph.
What’s the Knowledge Graph? It’s a database that Google and others use for finding factual information of entities; concepts, people, locations, and organisations. It contains real world entities, their relationships and classifications all interlinked with other entities to build a pattern which machines like search engine crawlers and AI platforms use to identify more meaning.
This relates to the directories in many different ways but let’s keep it simple and take a NAP. Put that pillow away, I’m talking about Name – Address – Phone Number, it’s the basics of what gets added to a listing.
But it’s not always that, it’s service offerings, service areas, awards, your opening hours and what’s across the internet including your website, your Google Business Profile and that blog you made in IT class back in high school that has you and your old pet’s name (RIP Tess, you were the realest).
If you’re a new wedding vendor, I highly encourage you to get onto these directories to help your website’s SEO in the early stages.
Vendor Referrals
You’ve probably heard of backlinks. One of the best and worst parts of SEO. Check your spam folder on your business if you don’t already know.
We’re not talking about buying links, or asking your mate to chuck a link your way. We’re talking about genuine relationships with other vendors you work with. The venue you worked with? Tell them how much you loved their space and how you want to be there every weekend.
Build that relationship, and get on the preferred vendor list, or give them some of your insights for their own blogs with your expertise. That’s not chucking a link your way, that’s genuine connection that’s good for anyone booking their wedding and in the stress of planning and choosing vendors.
A directory will give you a backlink. It’s not the strong backlink that SEO’s go nuts for, but if we’re talking about building you as the entity, it’s one way to do it.
Schema Markup (Structured Data)
Schema or structured data in SEO is one of the most direct ways you can influence your entity or entities. This involves code added in a structured data format, known as JSON-LD, to the backend of your pages to ‘mark up’ and explain to search engines in a more machine readable way who you are, what you do, and where you do it.
No, you don’t need to be a coder to create and implement schema. Schema generators, baked in features on website platforms, plugins and apps, Google Tag Manager can be used to help you out. And yes, AI does it very well when prompted correctly.
Schema is an initiative from search engines and the larger web community known as schema.org to help understanding of entities and concepts online.
Your directory reviews can be marked up, your business information, people like yourself and your team, your products and services can all be made into structured data.
SEO Best Practices ≠ Traditional SEO
SEO 101 still applies, and we can still optimise the site like back when we had side fringes and beaten up Vans slip ons.
Not exactly the same, but some of the same strategies and best practices never changed. Much like the way the ‘Rule of Thirds’ never went away in photography or content creators, we’re still writing descriptive headings with 1 x main heading (H1), in a sequential order. Hell, we’re still adding our best keyword directly but not in a completely unnatural fashion.
The meta keywords were lost and our FAQ schema not visible in search results anymore, but a good title tag will still be a powerful way to get your service page up and running.
How AI Can Help & Hinder Your Strategy
AI will go down as one of the most advanced tools we’ve come across in terms of digital marketing. It’s transforming every industry, and speeding up workflows, content production and solving roadblocks for wedding vendors and their clients.
But, remember one thing. AI is trained on the average of the internet. It’s not unique in its thinking, it won’t know your couples like you will, and AI is not your SEO strategist.
If you asked AI what information it needs, it’ll tell you it should come from a human. Because, it’s trained to do so. But also, the pattern recognition it used it because a Machine Learning algorithm like the ones AI is built on needs new information to keep learning. This is known as Information Gain.
I’m not against AI and I use it regularly, but it can’t capture the experience of an SEO who’s worked across numerous businesses, tested theories, failed on those theories, and tried again.
